I’m sure all of you have seen more and more infographics on a daily basis. They have become an essential element to a brand’s identity. They are an incredibly effective way to communicate detailed facts and numbers in a visually compelling manner.
Draw to Data Visualizations
We are a visual species. We would much rather look at the colors of the rainbow rather than the names of the colors written out. Our brains comprehend images faster than languages. Even if someone doesn’t want to take the time to read all of the information you have laid out, they will most likely take a glance at the visual element of your content.
This makes infographics that much more powerful and more easier to comprehend. Visually appealing content has a much better chance of grabbing the audience when thrown into the mix with a sea of articles.
Infographics, SEO, and Social Media
Want to boost your website ranking? Try swapping out an ordinary article with an inforgraphic. Turns out a visual information is 30 times more likely to be read over text information.
With social media being such a trend today, more social media users are sharing good quality inforgraphics more than ever. Visually driven platforms such as Pinterest or Instagram are perfect places to get your infographic onto. There are over 300 million users on Instagram every month! That’s quite a huge audience of potential clients. Platforms such as Facebook and Twitter have very large audiences as well, and having a post with visual imagery have a 35% better chance of being shared with others than a post with pure text.
Many people don’t know too much about the inside workings of Google and how to get your website in the forefront of search engines, but having Google “like” your inforgaphic is key.
The more shares your infographic gets, the more Google “likes” you. The more people who view your infographic, the more Google is attracted to you. It’s sort of like dating. The more good things are said about you, the more willing someone is to date you. Well the same goes for Google and your infographics. The more shares your inforgraphic gets, the more Google is drawn to you.
How to Attract Viewers
As a general rule you want your designs to be legible and visually attractive. Fonts, color schemes, layout and imagery are all key elements you want to focus on when creating your infographic.
The purpose of your infographic is to convey information in an attractive design. If you choose a vast quantity of colors, the information you are trying to display may start to look silly and too playful. The same goes for choosing colors that do not compliment each other. The legibility of your inforgraphic either makes it a functioning infographic or not. If people can’t read the information, then it’s just a pretty design with a bunch of numbers.
Although generic, Arial font is widely used because of its ease of legibility and simplicity of the letter shapes. A serif font often tends to be more difficult for people to read, opposed to a sans serif font. Big, bold type is always highly legible for most. It’s safe to say, if something is not visually appealing, people won’t want to look at it, plain and simple.
